North Karelia Enterprise Agency (Pohjois-Karjalan Uusyrityskeskus ry.) is specialised in counselling entrepreneurs to be.
North Karelia Enterprise Agency was founded in 1995 in response to an initiative from economic life; its members are successful growing businesses in the province. By the beginning of the year 2003, Enterprise Agency has established its position as a central provincial activator in North Karelia. It is the only comprehensive counselling service provider in the province for people who are planning to start a business. The agency has offices in Joensuu, Lieksa and Nurmes.
The agency works in close co-operation with North Karelia's municipalities and regional development companies, T&E-centre's business, countryside and labour departments, Finnvera plc, employment offices and several other central entrepreneurship promoting parties. The Enterprise Agency's service has been certified and it meets the standards of SFS-EN ISO 9001:2000 quality system.
North Karelia Enterprise Agency belongs to "Finnish Enterprise Agencies" network which comprises of thirty enterprise centres. (The name was changed 31.5.2008 from Finland's Jobs and Society). The Objectives for Enterprise agency operation are to raise the standards of entrepreneurs' know-how and to avoid failures. Collapses of businesses are fairly common in Finland, because over half of the established companies end their activities before their third year. With the help of nationwide network of centres, business collapses are being reduced, as those business ideas and projects which do not have prospects will not pass the analysis of expert network they have to go through in service points.
